How to become a COVID 19 Marshall

Learn how to become a COVID 19 Marshall at MSA Training and Professional Development.

During the current COVID-19 pandemic, becoming a COVID Marshall or a COVID check-in Marshall has been a highly sought after role. However, with the need for these key roles increasing, it raises the question: “What is a COVID Marshall and how do you become one?”

What is a COVID Marshall?

A COVID Marshall’s role includes monitoring practices in the workplace and ensuring they are within the Government’s guidelines for COVID workplace safety. They are to keep an eye on a workplace’s compliance with its COVIDSafe Plan, and look out for additional ways to better the COVIDSafe Plan.

A COVID check-in Marshall’s role is to ensure each person entering the premises correctly and successfully checks in using the Service Victoria QR Code or another approved sign in method. This employee is responsible for asking for evidence of checking in E.G showing your phone screen to make sure the individual entering has done so correctly.

How to become a COVID Marshall:

A formal qualification is required to become a COVID Marshall. This particular qualification is a basic form of Infection Control Training. It is also recommended for COVID Marshalls to undertake training in Level 2 First Aid. Here at MSA Training we do offer both sets of training for those wishing to obtain these qualifications.

As a minimum, a COVID Marshall should obtain the unit BSBSS00095 Cross-Sector Infection Control Skill Set, it is highly recommended that they have also completed the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (level 2) unit. Other formal qualifications, certificates, or training is not mandatory to become a Covid Marshall. It is the responsibility of the employer to train their Check-in Marshalls appropriately in their CovidSafe Plan, Policies and Procedures, to ensure the employee understands their role and how to perform It correctly.
