How to Get Your Food Safety Certificate

Without proper handling and safety procedures, food can sometimes become unsafe to eat. Because of this, it is essential for all food handlers to have a solid understanding of food safety requirements and know how to get their food safety certificate.

Employers in a range of industries, including hospitality, cleaning and food processing and preparation require employees to possess food safety qualifications.

The most important foundation for food safety is understanding hygienic practices in relation to food. This knowledge prevents food poisoning and other serious illness and is essential for anyone handling food.

How to Obtain Food Safety Qualifications

MSA Training and Professional Development offers SITXFSA001 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety, a crucial entry-point for food handling.

The course is suitable for all food handlers working in hospitality and covers cleaning and sanitising, food handling, temperature control, personal hygiene, pest control, waste disposal, and how to implement these practices in the workplace.

As the course is an entry-point to food handling, it can be completed in six hours on Zoom over the course of a day.

Once the course is completed, you’re ready to go! Food safety qualifications in Victoria last forever and don’t need to be renewed to remain valid. The only exceptions to this in Australia are if you’re planning to work in New South Wales or the ACT, which both require food safety qualifications to be renewed every five years.

Complimentary Qualifications

There are also several other courses available which compliment food safety and employability in the hospitality sector.

MSA Training and Professional Development offers courses for Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), bartending and cocktails, professional waiting skills, and barista essentials.

Alternatively, all these courses can be completed together in a six-day intensive hospitality bundle, fully preparing you for work in the hospitality industry.

Courses are located at Monash University in Clayton or running online via Zoom.
