HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
First Aid Level 1 (HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support) training and re accreditation will be provided by the mixed mode format. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide an emergency response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. The ability to perform first aid is an essential life skill that can sometimes mean the difference between life and death. First aid skills are also often required across a range of workplaces. Basic first aid training allows you to perform critical tasks such as CPR, wound care and allergic reaction response.
Successful participants will be awarded a Statement of attainment for the following unit of Competency: HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support and HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation. To ensure your certificate remains current, you will need to take the CPR refresher every twelve months and re-take the HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support (First Aid Level 1) course every three years.
This HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support is inclusive of:
- HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
This course covers the following:
- Performing CPR -Basic life support
- DRABCD -Care of unconscious person
- Severe Allergic reaction
- Care of unconscious person
- Demonstrate the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Bleeding and wound care
- Infection control
- and much more
You will need to complete pre reading and a workbook prior to attending your class, this will take on average 2 hour. Please ensure you enrol with enough time to complete the activities prior to class.

Peter Hamilton
Peter has been training for over 20 years within a number of Medical Emergency courses. Prior to his extensive training experience, he worked as an Ambulance Officer in which he was able to gain valuable knowledge which led him on his path to become an IPS Ambulance Training Manager.
Peter brings a vast knowledge of the ins and outs of medical emergencies, preparing for emergency situations and much more.
